Enjoy McGregor
Experience the charm of McGregor and the natural beauty of the surrounding Langeberg Valley. The village is a unique fusion of old and new where authenticity, warmth, and slow living are embraced.
Just a 2 hour drive from Cape Town, McGregor is one of the Western Cape’s best-kept secrets. It's a great destination where you can relax and recharge.
Start your adventure on Route 62 and the Garden Route
If you're looking to explore the Western Cape, McGregor is the perfect place to start. From here, you can easily access the beloved R62. This scenic route will take you through charming small towns like Montagu, Barrydale, and Calitzdorp. Alternatively, you can choose a Garden Route getaway and head towards Swellendam and then continue on to the N2.
Discover The Winelands
In McGregor and the nearby regions of Robertson, Bonnievale, and Ashton, you'll find some incredible wine farms and estates waiting to be explored. There's definitely no shortage of exceptional places to visit. Lord's Wines, Springfield Estate, Graham Beck, and Weltevrede are just a few.
Small Town Lifestyle
Explore the village and see for yourself why living in the countryside is so appealing. You'll find plenty of charming eateries, restaurants, and unique shops to discover. On weekends, the village becomes vibrant, especially during the Saturday morning market from 9 am to 11 am. This is a great opportunity to mingle with the locals and indulge in delicious homemade food and organic vegetables.
If you're in need of fresh produce and deli items, be sure to visit Made in McGregor. However, for your regular supermarket shopping, it's best to head to Robertson, which is approximately 20 minutes away.
If you're into art, you should definitely check out Joni-Leigh Doran & Alila Hofmeyer Studio Gallery and La Galleria. They're perfect spots for art enthusiasts like you.
Oh, and you absolutely can't miss Temenos Retreat! It has this amazing garden oasis that you can explore. It's truly a sight to behold. And if you're looking for a fun outing for the whole family, the Eseltjiesrus donkey sanctuary is a great choice.
Nature Lovers
If you love nature, you're in for a treat in this area. There are some amazing hiking and mountain biking options available. You can take a leisurely stroll in The Krans nature reserve or Vrolijkheid nature reserve just outside the village. For a more challenging adventure, there's the 14km Boesmanskloof Trail that takes you through mountainous terrain. What sets this trail apart is that it starts in one town and ends in another. You can choose to start in McGregor and finish in Greyton, or vice versa. Along the way, you'll pass through the Riversonderend mountain range and even find a picturesque picnic spot near a waterfall where you can take a refreshing dip. Just keep in mind that a permit is required for the Boesmanskloof Trail.
